On storytelling and tools, which drives which according to George Lucas
George Lucas was interviewed by Charlie Rose recently in which Mr Lucas asserted:
Whenever there’s a new tool, everybody goes crazy and they forget that there’s a story and that’s the point. You’re telling a story using tools, you’re not using tools to tell a story.
Which is something I completely and unequivocally agree with. It’s the story that is of paramount importance, not the tool. If the story is bad, no amount of RED or Alexa cameras is going to make the story better. If the story is good; however, it will resonate even if shot with an old Nokia phone!
If you have 50 minutes, please watch this interview in which Mr Lucas shares some of his experience and wisdom on not only how to be a better filmmaker, but how to be a better storyteller and communicator.
