Diabetes Awareness in Bahrain: Our Latest CSR Productions
We’re pleased to announce the release of our latest corporate social responsibility initiative that seeks to raise awareness about the growing problem of diabetes in Bahrain. Working in collaboration with the Rotary Club of Salmaniya we produced four awareness raising videos around the effects of diabetes and some of the steps to take for managing the disease.
The four videos feature two television commercials that highlight the devastating effect diabetes can have on families and two interviews with established diabetes experts based in Bahrain. These include Dr. Rabi’a Alhajeri of Gulf Diabetes Specialist Center Bahrain and Professor David Whitford of the Royal College of Surgeons of Ireland.
Across the Middle East and North Aftrica 35 million people have diabetes. The disease is particularly prevalent in Bahrain and the wider Gulf. According to the international Diabetes Federation, or IDF, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and Qatar are in the top 10 of nations with diabetes. Bahrain is just outside the top 10 at number 12.
Speaking of the campaign Nada Alawi former president of the Rotary Club said:
“Diabetes has become a matter of a condition in which we need to adopt in our lifestyles to prevent or reduce its effect. Knowledge is power and this power will help us reduce the number of people who get diagnosed with diabetes and reduce or delay the consequences for people who already have type 2. We hope that with these short videos that people will benefit and share them with others.”
The campaign is aimed at raising awareness about the effect of diabetes on not just the individual but also on families and friends. The videos will be shown on diabetes.bh, Bahrain’s diabetes awareness portal as well as the Rotary Club of Salmaniya’s You Tube channel.
